TelevisaUnivision reports $1.4 billion Q3 revenue amid regional shifts
TelevisaUnivision reported a 9% increase in total third-quarter revenue, reaching $1.4 billion. The growth was primarily driven by a 51% surge in Mexican revenue, bolstered by FIFA World Cup telecasts and sublicensing rights.
In contrast, the company faced challenges in the United States, where revenue fell 14% to $715 million. U.S. advertising revenue specifically dropped by 24%, which the company attributed to cyclical headwinds and comparisons to the previous year’s Gold Cup coverage.
The company recorded a $372 million non-cash impairment loss due to the write-down of television broadcast licenses and posted an operating loss of $119 million, compared to an operating income of $265 million in the prior year.
Regarding future sports rights, CEO Daniel Alegre stated the company is satisfied with its current portfolio, which includes Formula 1, the Super Bowl, and CONCACAF, though he did not explicitly confirm if the company will bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup rights in the U.S.
