Televisión Española workers denounce alleged news manipulation

The Consejo de Informativos (CdI) of Televisión Española (TVE) has raised alarms regarding alleged journalistic malpractice and manipulation within the program ‘Mañaneros 360’, hosted by Jesús Cintora.

Workers at the public broadcaster have denounced a specific technique referred to as the ‘plano perrito’ (puppy shot). This involves displaying multiple reporters in small windows on screen simultaneously to create an illusion of massive, real-time coverage. However, the CdI noted that the footage used was often recorded days or even weeks in advance, with reporters instructed to film at different times to match the expected weather of a specific season.

The CdI characterized this staging as a deceptive practice that violates RTVE’s style manual and its commitment to truthfulness and objectivity. The controversy adds to ongoing debates regarding press freedom, political bias, and the professional responsibility of presenters within Spain’s public television landscape.
