Television market shifts toward premium models amid rising component costs
The global television market is shifting toward premium models as component shortages and rising memory costs impact budget-friendly options. According to Omdia, while global TV shipments are projected to decrease by 1% by 2027, premium television shipments—defined as models with an average selling price exceeding $1,000—are expected to grow by 9.3% annually.
Rising costs for components, particularly memory, are squeezing the profit margins of low-end models. Manufacturers are increasingly prioritizing high-end units that can better absorb these cost increases. Technological shifts are also underway, with RGB LED backlighting expected to account for 49% of premium TV revenue by 2030, while conventional LCD backlighting is predicted to drop to 2% of the market.
In the retail sector, MediaWorld has launched an outlet on eBay featuring various television deals. The selection includes new and display models, ranging from small 24-inch LED TVs for approximately €89 to 55-inch Samsung QLED 4K models priced at €399.90. These offers include brands such as Philips and PEAQ, though availability and specific product conditions vary.
