Telewizja Polska receives significant state budget subsidies

Telewizja Polska (TVP) continues to receive significant financial support through direct state budget subsidies. Recent transfers include 180 million PLN on September 25 and 360 million PLN on October 9. These payments are part of a broader funding structure following the presidential veto of a law that would have provided compensation for lost license fee revenues via treasury bonds.

Reports indicate that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has allocated substantial funds to TVP-related entities, such as the Center for Foreign Media. In 2024, the ministry allocated 96 million PLN toward TVP World's operations, out of a total station budget of 110 million PLN.

Concerns have been raised regarding the efficiency of these expenditures. Investigations into specific productions, such as ‘Poland Innovation Hub’ and ‘Polish Castles’, highlight high production costs—totaling millions of PLN—despite very low viewership numbers on platforms like YouTube. Additionally, the Central Anticorruption Bureau has previously investigated allegations of nepotism and mismanagement regarding media funding.
