Telia Company announces 900 job cuts across Nordic and Baltic regions

Telia Company is implementing a major restructuring plan across the Nordic and Baltic regions to reduce costs and increase profitability. The telecommunications giant aims to save approximately 1 billion Swedish kronor annually by cutting roughly 900 positions across its operations.

The workforce reductions are distributed as follows:

• Finland: Approximately 280 jobs will be eliminated. • Sweden: Approximately 260 jobs will be cut, alongside the transfer of 220 roles from a central technical unit to local country units. • Norway: 150 positions will be affected. • Lithuania: Up to 85 employees are expected to receive notices, though the company plans to create 12 new roles.

CEO Patrik Hofbauer described the decision as “incredibly tough and painful” but necessary to ensure the company remains competitive. The restructuring involves simplifying management structures and shifting more responsibility to local country teams. The company expects to complete these organizational changes by the end of 2026, with many staff reductions targeted for completion by December 31, 2026.
