Telia Norway CEO warns of strategic risks from SpaceX Starlink dependency

Bjørn Ivar Moen, head of Telia Norway, has issued a warning regarding Norway and Europe's potential over-reliance on SpaceX and its Starlink satellite internet service. Moen argues that authorities must take the security risks associated with the provider seriously, citing recent instances where SpaceX limited Starlink access in Ukraine due to its use in offensive drone operations.

Moen suggests that once a dependency on Starlink is established, it will be nearly impossible to reverse, as traditional mobile operators may reduce their investments. He emphasizes that this creates strategic vulnerabilities that could allow a private entity to disrupt services based on disagreements with government authorities.

Similar concerns were echoed by the head of Telenor, who described the situation as a vulnerability and risk that Norway and Europe cannot live with, urging proactive measures from Norwegian authorities.
