Telšiai District prepares school meal support for students
In the Telšiai district of Lithuania, local authorities are preparing for the upcoming school year with a focus on student welfare and meal programs. Data from the Telšiai District Municipality Social Assistance and Care Department indicates that in September 2025, free meals were assigned to 1,382 students.
Under current regulations, students in pre-school, first, and second grades are eligible for free meals regardless of family income. In September 2025, this group included 995 children. For older students, free meals are provided based on an assessment of family income; currently, 89 students have been assigned meals through this means, though final figures will not be confirmed until after the August 25 deadline for submitting student lists.
Local officials emphasize that the focus is expanding beyond mere provision to include the quality of food, waste reduction, and the conditions under which students are fed.
