Tellbus Setra S 531 DT launches Luzern-Altdorf express service

Verkehrsbetriebe Luzern AG (VBL AG) has begun operating a new Setra S 531 DT double-decker bus on the express line between Luzern and Altdorf, acting on behalf of Auto AG Uri. Known colloquially as the ‘Tellbus’, the gold-silver vehicle connects the two cantonal capitals with a single intermediate stop.

Utilizing the A2 motorway through the Seelisberg Tunnel, the bus completes the journey in approximately 45 minutes, a duration faster than the rail connection for this route. The vehicle features seating for 79 passengers, including Voyage-type seats with Ambassador upholstery and club tables in the lower deck. It also includes dedicated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility.

The bus is equipped with advanced Daimler Buses safety technology, including the MirrorCam system, which replaces traditional side mirrors to provide an expanded field of view. Additionally, it features the ABA 6 emergency brake assist, which uses radar and camera sensors to perform automated full stops at speeds up to 60 km/h to avoid obstacles, other vehicles, or pedestrians.
