Telnor dismisses 200 unionized workers in Baja California and Sonora

Teléfonos del Noroeste (Telnor) has dismissed approximately 200 unionized employees across the Mexican states of Baja California and Sonora. The layoffs, which occurred on September 8, affected technical, administrative, and sales staff in municipalities including Mexicali, Ensenada, Playas de Rosarito, Tijuana, and San Luis Río Colorado.

Lázaro Leonardo Rivera Astorga, general secretary of the Telephone Workers Union of Baja California and Sonora, reported that the dismissals were conducted without prior notice. The union claims the company attempted to solicit voluntary resignation letters and has since removed the workers from the system, preventing them from reporting to work. While the company has not provided a specific justification for the terminations, union leaders stated that Telnor expressed intentions to modify a labor contract clause.

In response, the Section 14 of the Telephone Workers Union of the Mexican Republic, based in Córdoba, has announced its support for national mobilization efforts if the workers are not reinstated. Union leaders warned that further actions will be determined by the National Executive Committee.
