Brain's plexus choroideus linked to higher dementia risk in large UK study

A study of more than 45,000 middle‑aged adults from the UK Biobank, published in *Molecular Psychiatry*, found that changes in the brain’s plexus choroideus are associated with later dementia. Researchers measured the structure’s volume and MRI signal intensity and observed that older participants tended to have a larger plexus choroideus with lower signal intensity, both of which correlated with a higher probability of receiving a dementia diagnosis. The authors suggest the plexus choroideus could serve as an early biomarker for dementia risk.

Separately, an international analysis of over 214,000 older adults from 14 countries, reported in *The Lancet Healthy Longevity*, showed that the prevalence and patterns of modifiable dementia risk factors differ markedly across regions. The findings highlight the need for tailored, evidence‑based prevention strategies worldwide.
