Telugu Desam Party defends Election Commission of India

Leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have expressed support for the Election Commission of India (ECI) following allegations made by the Congress party regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu welcomed a clarification issued by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners S. S. Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. Naidu stated that the ECI's explanation regarding the SIR process reaffirmed the integrity of India’s constitutional institutions and addressed misconceptions about the procedure.

Similarly, TDP Andhra Pradesh president Palla Srinivasa Rao dismissed the Congress party’s allegations against the ECI leadership as ‘politically motivated and baseless.’ Rao noted that the ECI had proactively engaged with political parties to address concerns regarding the SIR process and expressed full confidence in the commission’s autonomy and ability to manage the country’s large electorate.
