Tema Metropolitan Assembly halts construction over permit disputes

The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has halted construction at Community 1, Sites 3 and 8, citing a lack of required permits. The Assembly’s taskforce also demolished structures on the site, which officials state was reserved for a community playground and other public facilities.

TMA Chief Executive Ebi Bright stated that the Assembly has no record of any permitting process for the development, noting that unauthorized physical development is a crime under the law. The intervention follows allegations that contractors ignored previous directives to suspend work. The situation has caused tension between the TMA and TDC Ghana Limited, while local residents have raised concerns regarding land use and area access.
