Temascalcingo pyrotechnics explosion kills at least 10 people

A pyrotechnics explosion during religious festivities in Santa María Canchesdá, Temascalcingo, has resulted in a significant loss of life and numerous injuries. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, September 5, during celebrations for the patron saint, Nuestra Señora de la Luz.

Reports indicate that the explosion originated from pyrotechnic material stored in a warehouse adjacent to the local parish. The blast caused the collapse of parts of the building, including the roof, trapping people under debris. Death tolls vary slightly across reports, ranging from 9 to 11 fatalities, with injury counts estimated between 24 and over 80 people. Among the injured are two priests, who are reported to be out of danger.

The Conferencia del Episcopado Mexicano (CEM) issued a statement expressing deep sadness and solidarity with the affected families. The Church called for increased prudence and responsibility during patron saint festivals, emphasizing that human life and integrity must always take precedence over tradition. Authorities are currently investigating the precise cause of the detonation.
