Temba Bavuma sets record with ODI century against Australia

Temba Bavuma became the oldest captain to score an ODI century for South Africa during the second ODI against Australia at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on September 27, 2026. At 36 years and 133 days old, Bavuma surpassed the previous record held by Faf du Plessis.

Bavuma scored 103 runs off 116 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes. His innings helped stabilize the Proteas after a difficult start that saw the team fall to 93/3. He anchored the recovery through a significant partnership with David Miller, which exceeded 150 runs.

This performance marks Bavuma’s sixth ODI century, five of which have been scored while serving as captain. He reached his milestone in the 36th over before being dismissed by Jack Edwards.
