Temerloh police arrest seven in utility cable theft raids

Police in Temerloh have arrested seven individuals, including six men and one woman, suspected of stealing utility and telecommunications cables. The arrests followed several raids conducted between September 15 and 19.

Investigations revealed the suspects were linked to three criminal groups: ‘Geng Mat Letrik’, ‘Geng Mista’, and ‘Geng Sasi’. The thefts targeted cables belonging to Tenaga Nasional Berhad and Telekom Malaysia Berhad, occurring between June and September. Authorities seized cables, vehicles, and cutting equipment valued at approximately RM50,000.

Four of the suspects have prior criminal and drug records, and initial urine tests showed four individuals tested positive for methamphetamine. The stolen cables were reportedly sold to scrap metal dealers for RM30 per kilogram. Police are currently searching for six additional men from the ‘Geng Mista’ and ‘Geng Sasi’ groups who remain at large.
