Tempe Healing Field marks 25th anniversary of September 11 attacks

The Tempe Healing Field, an annual memorial organized by the Exchange Club of Tempe, is being held at Tempe Beach Park to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Nearly 3,000 American flags have been planted across the park, with each flag representing one of the individuals killed in the attacks.

Community members, including Arizona State University ROTC students and student-athletes, assisted in setting up the tribute. The observance includes several scheduled events: a ceremony at 5:46 a.m. on Friday to mark the time the first plane struck the tower, followed by a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. that evening. On Saturday, a Freedom Concert featuring patriotic music will take place, and on Sunday morning, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation will host a 5K run/walk.

The memorial remains open to the public through Sunday, Sept. 13. Volunteers will gather on Monday, Sept. 14, to take down the flags.
