Tempi crash trial: Witness alleges crime scene tampering

During the judicial proceedings regarding the Tempi train crash, Maria Karystianou testified that the crime scene was altered. She presented photographic evidence of excavators being used to fill and modify the site, which she characterized as the ‘alteration of a crime scene.’

Karystianou called for a formal investigation into the ‘pyrosphere’—the conditions under which the massive fire erupted following the collision. She also raised concerns regarding the disappearance of significant audio and video material from the investigation.

In her testimony, she criticized the lack of accountability, suggesting that beyond political figures, officials from ministries, regional authorities, and forensic experts should be held responsible. She specifically mentioned former Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Kostas Karamanlis and former Thessaly Regional Governor Kostas Agorastos, alleging that the site was filled with materials using companies established after the accident.
