Tempi Municipality Launches Emergency Mosquito Spraying After West Nile Case in Kalochori

A West Nile virus infection was confirmed in the community of Kalochori within Tempi Municipality, Greece. Mayor George Manolis met with Ioannis Kanellopoulos, the coordinator of the Thessaly Region’s mosquito‑control programme, to organise an immediate response.

The municipality will carry out a targeted spray using an EPA‑approved formulation on Tuesday 28 July 2026, starting after 22:00 and lasting about one to one‑and‑a‑half hours. Residents are instructed to stay inside, keep windows and doors closed, keep clothing off balconies, and keep pets indoors from 22:00 on 28 July until 02:00 on 29 July. Local shops are advised to close before the spray begins. The operation may be paused if people are observed on the streets.

The spraying is part of the 2026 Mosquito‑Control Programme jointly run by Tempi Municipality and the Thessaly regional authority, following guidance from the Hellenic Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (EODY). Informational leaflets are available at municipal health and welfare offices.
