Tempi railway disaster trial resumes in Larissa court

The criminal appeal court in Larissa resumed the trial for the Tempi railway disaster after a month-long pause. The pause allowed reconfiguration of the courtroom at the University of Thessaly's Gaiopolis campus, adding more seats for lawyers and expanding the audience area. The session will hear from the 36 defendants, all OSE and ERGOSE employees, as well as approximately 250 supporters, 240 legal guardians, accredited journalists and up to 110 additional observers.

Defendants have filed objections targeting the involvement of Greek Bar Associations and the Drivers' Union, while four also seek the dismissal of the state for its alleged role. The trial follows earlier protests by victims' families over the suitability of the venue.

The court's president, Maria Lianou, confirmed the new layout, which includes a 452‑square‑meter main hall and a supplementary 110‑square‑meter audience space equipped with screens.
