PAOK community honors six fans lost in Tempi tragedy 27 years later

PAOK fans memorial Tempi tragedy anniversary Greek football commemoration ceremony

The PAOK football community gathered to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Tempi tragedy, a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of six young fans on October 4, 1999. The victims, returning from a match against Panathinaikos in Athens, are remembered annually by the club and its supporters.

A memorial service was held at the Tempi monument, attended by numerous fans and representatives from various branches of the PAOK family, including the football, basketball, and amateur departments. Wreaths were laid by PAOK officials, including Vice President Angelos Anastasiadis, and the presidents of the Hellenic Football Federation and the German Football Association, who honored the memory of the six fans alongside seven others lost in a separate accident in Romania earlier this year.

Club officials emphasized that the memory of the deceased remains deeply ingrained in the club's identity. The commemoration included tributes from the club's management and supporters' groups, such as the Eleftheriou Kordelio association, ensuring the names of Charalampos Zapounidis, Dimitris Andreadakis, Christina Tsiovia, Anastasios Themellis, Georgios Gnatasios, and Kyriakos Lazaridis are not forgotten.
