Tempi train crash families demand uninterrupted trial and upgraded charges

The Association of Relatives of the Tempi Train Crash Victims urged Greek authorities to keep the main trial proceeding without any further postponements. They argued that new evidence presented in recent hearings justifies a harsher charge classification and warned that any delay could hinder accountability.

During the court sessions of July 6‑8, the Larissa Criminal Court appointed three new defense lawyers for one of the accused, rejected requests to link the case with the unrelated 717 incident, and postponed a decision on the request to upgrade the charges. New forensic analysis from the Criminal Investigation Directorate was added to the record. The defense counsel for the former OSE inspector sought a pre‑trial question to the European Court of Justice about the legality of fragmenting the case into separate trials, which the relatives view as an attempt at a cover‑up. The association stressed that only a continuous main trial can fully reveal responsibility for the disaster that claimed many lives.
