Tempi train accident trial continues with 13 witnesses and three pending requests FAST-MOVING
The trial regarding the Tempi railway accident has entered its fourth week of victim relative testimonies at the Larissa Three-Member Court of Appeals. According to the court schedule, 13 witnesses are expected to testify.
Three critical requests from the prosecution's support side remain pending. Two requests seek forensic examination of mobile phones belonging to the accused night-shift station master and the deceased assistant driver, Nikolaos Nalbandis, to determine if any communication occurred with the passenger train driver, George Koutsoumpas, following the train's departure from Larissa station.
The prosecutor has recommended granting the request to lift privacy protections on the station master's device to examine calls, SMS, MMS, and app-based communications like Viber.
A third request involves summoning Adonis Georgiadis and Dimitris Markopoulos as witnesses. The family of Nikolaos Nalbandis requested Georgiadis's testimony following recent public statements, while the request for Markopoulos is based on his role as the chairman of the parliamentary inquiry committee into the accident.
