Tempi train crash trial enters substantive phase in Greece

The judicial proceedings regarding the Tempi train crash of February 28, 2023, have entered a critical phase following the completion of preliminary procedural hearings. After a summer recess, the Larissa Multipurpose Court of Appeals held three sessions in early September 2026, moving into the examination of prosecution witnesses.

Members of the victims' families provided testimony concerning the conditions of the accident, citing the inadequate state of the railway network and a lack of safety systems. They also raised concerns regarding potential alterations to the crime scene, questions about a resulting fire, and issues with audio documentation.

Legal representatives for the prosecution have requested comprehensive laboratory examinations of the station master's communications and digital data, as well as investigations into potential tampering with recordings. The Association of Relatives of Tempi Victims 28.02.2023 has stated they will continue to monitor the process closely, demanding a full investigation and accountability for those responsible.
