Tempi train crash trial: Mother of victim testifies on safety failures

During the ongoing trial regarding the Tempi train tragedy at the Larissa Court of Appeals, Alma Lata, the mother of 22-year-old victim Claudia Lata, provided emotional testimony. She described the loss of her daughter and criticized the railway safety systems and operational conditions that led to the February 28, 2023, accident.

Lata highlighted the lack of safety measures, alleging that trains were traveling at speeds of 160 km/h instead of the required 80 km/h. She directed accusations toward officials regarding the failure to implement necessary speed reductions and safety protocols.

A total of 36 individuals from organizations including OSE, ERGOSE, Hellenic Train, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and the Railway Regulatory Authority face charges in connection with the disaster that claimed 57 lives.
