Tempi train crash trial: Survivors testify in Larissa court

Testimonies from survivors and relatives of the victims continued during the trial regarding the February 28, 2023, train collision in Tempi, Greece, which resulted in 57 deaths. During the proceedings at the Larissa Three-Member Misdemeanor Court, passengers from the second Intercity carriage provided harrowing accounts of the impact.

Myrsinia Prassa, who survived with severe head injuries and spent thirty days in a coma, testified about the trauma and her long recovery process. She stated, “It was like I was dead,” and expressed her desire for those responsible to be imprisoned. Another survivor, Zoë Siotzi, described the sudden braking and the subsequent violent collision that left her trapped in deformed metal and debris.

The trial schedule for the week includes testimonies from five Intercity passengers and two relatives of the victims. Legal representatives for the victims' families have submitted requests to summon General Secretaries of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure from the 2016–2023 period and to examine documents between the Greek government and the European Commission regarding railway safety.
