Tempi railway accident trial continues in Larissa

The trial regarding the Tempi railway disaster continues this week at the Three-Member Court of Appeals of Larissa. The proceedings are scheduled across two sessions, with eight witnesses expected to testify, including five Intercity passengers and two relatives of the victims.

Survivors and relatives have provided harrowing testimonies. Myrsini Prassa, who survived the collision and underwent six surgeries after being in a coma for 30 days, described the trauma and expressed a desire for those responsible to be imprisoned. Another survivor, Zoë Siou, described the extreme panic and the suffocating atmosphere as the train carriage caught fire.

Legal representatives for the victims' families have submitted several requests. These include calling the General Secretaries of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure from 2016–2023 as witnesses and requesting documents exchanged between the Greek government and the European Commission regarding railway safety. Additionally, requests remain pending for the identification of bone fragments collected from Koulouri and Pighadia, and for the burial process to be conducted under the supervision of the court.
