Temuco hosts new Shakespeare adaptation focusing on Rosalina

The play ‘Rosalina y Romeo y Julieta’, a production by Teatro Nescafé de las Artes, will be performed at the Teatro Municipal de Temuco on Friday, August 21. The production is part of an artistic residency program.

Developed from the work of Eliana Hernández and directed by Felipe Molina, the play offers a new perspective on William Shakespeare’s classic by focusing on Rosalina, Juliet’s cousin. The narrative explores the events preceding the famous romance, detailing how Romeo’s initial rejection by Rosalina leads him to attend the Capulet party where he meets Juliet.

The production stars Constanza Araya and Bernabé Madrigal. Araya described the character of Rosalina as a shrewd and defiant woman who rebels against the social patterns of her time.
