Ten Minors Complete Gender Identity Change in Cuernavaca, Morelos

Around ten children and adolescents in Cuernavaca, the capital of the Mexican state of Morelos, have officially changed their gender identity on paperwork. The procedures were carried out with the legal consent of parents or guardians, as required by state law.

The changes were confirmed by Isidro Añorve Sánchez, coordinator of Equity and Participation and of the March for Sexual Diversity in Morelos, who noted that the processes were supported by the local diversity‑sexuality office and that families played a key role. Most of the cases involved transgender boys. Authorities say the revisions allow the youths to have accurate identification in schools and medical settings.

The municipal Direction of Attention to Sexual Diversity reported no discrimination complaints in 2026 so far, compared with 20‑30 cases recorded in 2025. Officials called for the education secretariat to develop clear school protocols to protect transgender students.
