Ten Turkish-origin politicians elected to Berlin Parliament

Ten politicians of Turkish origin have been elected to the Berlin state parliament following recent elections. Of the successful candidates, seven are women. The elected members represent the Social Democratic Party (SPD), The Left Party, and Alliance 90/The Greens.

Elif Eralp of The Left Party and Taylan Kurt of the Greens secured direct mandates in their respective constituencies. Other representatives elected via party lists include Sevim Aydın, Derya Çağlar, Sebahat Atlı, and Orkan Özdemir from the SPD, as well as Betül Havva Yılmaz, Ender Atakul, Asya Şenyüz, and Eda Terkan from The Left Party.

With these results, the proportion of Turkish-origin representatives in the Berlin Parliament has reached 7.69%, exceeding their share of the city's total population, which is approximately 5%. One notable elected official is Betül Havva Yılmaz, an academic who was previously dismissed from her position at Eskişehir Osmagazi University in Turkey via a statutory decree in 2017.
