Tenant rights and risks regarding heating systems

In rental properties, legal standards generally require average room temperatures to reach between 20 and 21 degrees Celsius during the hours of 7:00 to 23:00. While temperatures may be lowered overnight, tenants facing inadequate heating have specific rights regarding landlord obligations.

Regarding maintenance, tenants are legally permitted to bleed radiators to remove air that causes noise or poor heat transfer. However, experts warn that bleeding radiators in buildings with central heating systems can lead to water loss, reducing the overall system pressure. If the pressure drops too low, the entire heating system may shut down, affecting multiple apartments. Refilling the heating system is the responsibility of the landlord or a professional technician, as the required pressure depends on the specific system and building height.
