Tencent invests $60 million in Turkish mobile game developers

Tencent has significantly increased its investment in the Turkish mobile gaming sector, deploying nearly $60 million into two Istanbul-based casual game developers within a 15-day period.

Recently, Tencent participated in a $46 million funding round for FlowGames, contributing approximately $34.5 million. FlowGames is known for its title ‘SmashFest’, which has seen a surge in downloads and utilizes a hybrid monetization model of in-app purchases and advertising. Shortly before this, Tencent led a $25 million Series A round for Circle Games, a studio founded by veterans from successful Turkish developers like Gram Games and Dream Games.

These moves align with Tencent’s broader strategy to dominate the global casual gaming market through its subsidiary Miniclip and direct investments. By targeting high-growth segments and established talent hubs like Istanbul, Tencent aims to secure a diverse portfolio of titles that leverage both advertising and in-app transactions.
