Tencent Music shares fall despite beating Q2 earnings estimates
Tencent Music Entertainment Group experienced a 7.2% decline in its share price this week despite reporting second-quarter results that exceeded Wall Street expectations. The company reported sales of $1.32 billion and adjusted earnings per American depositary share that beat analyst targets by $0.01.
Despite the beat, investor concerns centered on rising operating expenses and a 16% decline in revenue from the company’s social entertainment services unit. While music-related services grew by approximately 11% annually, the company saw slight declines in both operating income margin and gross margin. Broader selling momentum in Chinese technology stocks also contributed to the pullback.
In a separate market analysis, Tencent Music remains identified as a notable music stock to watch alongside other industry players such as NetEase and Warner Music Group.
