Tencent terminates employee after revealing 12.3 billion‑dong bonus

Tencent fired Diệp, a project lead in the company's WeChat business unit (WXG), after he posted a screenshot of his year‑end compensation online. The screenshot showed total earnings of about 3.2 million Chinese yuan (≈12.4 billion Vietnamese dong), comprising a cash bonus of roughly 820,000 yuan and stock awards worth about 2.35 million yuan.

Tencent’s anti‑fraud department said the post violated the firm’s “Red Line” policy that bars disclosure of sensitive internal information, including salary data. Consequently, Diệp was placed on a permanent blacklist and barred from future employment with the company, and his internal meeting schedule was removed.

The employee had previously left the firm in May of the prior year and had twice earned the “Outstanding” performance rating in 2025, qualifying him for the large bonus. The incident has prompted discussion about salary transparency and data security within Chinese tech companies.
