Fujinokawa promoted to Sekiwake for Autumn Basho

Sumo wrestler Fujinokawa, aged 21 and weighing 125kg, has been promoted to the rank of Sekiwake for the upcoming Autumn Basho at the Kokugikan. This marks a significant achievement, as he is the first wrestler from Kyoto Prefecture to reach the San'yaku ranks in 198 years.

His rapid ascent is ranked as the 10th fastest in the modern era of professional sumo. Fujinokawa’s promotion follows a strong performance in the previous tournament, where he secured eight wins, including two victories over Yokozuna. His training style, characterized by intense and relentless practice sessions at the Ise no Umi stable, has been cited by mentors as a key factor in his ability to compete against much larger opponents.
