Tenchijin surpasses 100 municipal contracts for satellite-based water management in Japan

Tenchijin Inc., a space-tech company founded as a JAXA venture, has announced that its “Tenchijin COMPASS KnoWaterleak” solution has surpassed 100 cumulative municipal contracts in Japan. The service utilizes satellite data and artificial intelligence to support sustainable water and sewer utility management.

With approximately 189,000 km of Japan’s water network exceeding 40 years of age, the technology aims to address the high costs and labor shortages associated with aging infrastructure. The system applies AI to satellite imagery and utility records to help municipalities prioritize leak risk assessments, pipe renewal planning, and sewer pipeline inspections.

Tenchijin plans to launch “KnoWaterleak Cloud” in fiscal year 2027, a browser-based service for on-site pipe network mapping. Early access to this service is available to 100 utilities as of September 1, 2026.
