Tenerife advances agricultural heritage and renewable energy goals

The Cabildo de Tenerife has launched several initiatives aimed at preserving local heritage and accelerating the transition to clean energy.

In collaboration with the University of La Laguna and the Rural Action Group (GAR) Tenerife, a project titled ‘Agrosystems of potato cultivation in the island of Tenerife’ has concluded. The initiative resulted in seven guides, available in print and digital formats, designed to document and protect the agricultural, landscape, and cultural heritage of traditional potato farming. The research mapped local varieties and cultivation techniques across seven representative zones of the island.

Simultaneously, the Cabildo de Tenerife is working to unblock renewable energy development. President Rosa Dávila led a coordination meeting with the Canary Renewable Energy Association (ACER), the Spanish Photovoltaic Union (UNEF), and the Official College of Industrial Engineers. The discussions focused on addressing bottlenecks in the electrical grid, improving energy storage, streamlining administrative procedures, and planning infrastructure to meet 2030 energy goals. The sector advocated for a distributed generation model to manage territorial impact.
