Tenerife reports surge in dengue cases and issues tens of thousands of traffic fines

The municipal authorities of Tenerife disclosed that 161 dengue infections have been confirmed this year, nearing the total of 178 recorded in 2025. Health officials have intensified surveillance, removed mosquito breeding sites and urged residents to eliminate standing water and seek medical care if symptoms appear.

In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the local police recorded 29,665 traffic sanctions in the past year, averaging 81 fines daily, with parking violations accounting for 66% of offenses (19,744 fines). The city also reported 974 traffic accidents, resulting in two deaths and 34 serious injuries. Police responded to 86,016 emergency calls and made 354 arrests, many related to minor‑age protection and gender‑based violence.
