Tenerife court begins trial for alleged sexual assault

A trial has commenced in the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife regarding an alleged sexual assault that occurred during the 2023 carnivals in La Orotava. The defendant is accused of administering sleeping pills to a woman to facilitate the assault.

During the first session, the accused denied the allegations, despite a recording being played in which he reportedly admitted the facts to a friend without providing specific details. The prosecution is seeking nine years in prison and a 40,000 euro fine, while the private prosecution is requesting the same prison sentence and a 50,000 euro fine. DNA evidence from the victim has been linked to the defendant.
