Tenerife: Guardia Civil seizes 13 tonnes of nitrous oxide
The Guardia Civil has dismantled a hierarchical criminal organization in southern Tenerife dedicated to the illegal import, storage, and distribution of nitrous oxide, commonly known as ‘laughing gas’. The group, which reportedly featured a family-based leadership core, managed logistics for foreign imports and local distribution to nightlife areas.
During four simultaneous raids in Arona, Adeje, and Granadilla de Abona, authorities seized 10,394 containers of nitrous oxide weighing approximately 13,000 kg. This represents the second-largest seizure of the substance in Europe.
In addition to the nitrous oxide, officers recovered €63,500 and £1,000 in cash, along with various other drugs including cocaine, hashish, marijuana, and ‘Tusi’. The operation also resulted in the seizure of five replica firearms, eight bladed weapons (including axes), electronic devices, and documentation related to the criminal activities. Six individuals have been arrested, and six others are currently under investigation for crimes including drug trafficking, money laundering, and membership in a criminal organization.
