Tenerife implements housing plans and prepares for volcanic emergency drill
Various administrative and environmental developments are underway in Tenerife. The municipality of Mogán has approved a new urban planning document that allocates 75% of planned residential area to protected housing, aiming to provide approximately 3,000 homes for young people and families.
In Guía de Isora, the Instituto Canario de la Vivienda (Icavi) has launched a contract process to build 24 protected homes and parking spaces. This is part of a larger €29.8 million investment across Guía de Isora, Arona, and Adeje, funded by Next Generation EU resources to promote social rental housing.
Regarding emergency preparedness, the Cabildo de Tenerife is organizing VOLCANEX Tenerife 2026, a large-scale volcanic emergency drill scheduled for October 22 in Guía de Isora. The exercise will simulate evacuations in the Chirche and Aripe areas to test civil protection response systems.
Environmentally, water reserves in Tenerife's reservoirs have seen a significant decline during the summer. Since June, the reservoirs have lost approximately 1.7 million cubic meters of water, dropping from 77.6% to 43% capacity, though current levels remain higher than those recorded in September 2025.
