Tenerife introduces double‑decker buses on northern TF‑5 routes

On Tuesday, July 28, the public transport operator Titsa began operating new double‑deck buses on Tenerife’s northern TF‑5 highway, serving lines 100 (Puerto de la Cruz–Santa Cruz) and 108 (Icod de los Vinos–Santa Cruz). The rollout, presented by Cabildo president Rosa Dávila and Mobility councilor Eulalia García, adds 13 two‑storey vehicles, with ten already in service and three arriving later in the week. Each bus now seats 85 passengers instead of 59, raising capacity by about 44 % and helping to serve the more than two million annual travelers on these routes, most of whom live on the island.

The buses feature active‑safety technology, including an Alcolock starter‑alcohol control, blind‑spot sensors, lane‑departure alerts, digital cameras replacing side mirrors, and a network of interior CCTV cameras. Ten units are operating now, with an additional five slated for purchase in 2027. The deployment is part of Titsa’s broader fleet renewal, which has added 351 new vehicles in three years with a €125 million investment and plans to acquire 57 more by year‑end.

The upgrade is also mirrored on the southern TF‑1 highway, where similar high‑capacity buses serve routes 110 and 112 to Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje.
