Tenerife: Mother of Jay Slater returns to site of son's death

Debbie Duncan, the mother of 19-year-old Jay Slater, has returned to Tenerife to retrace the final steps of her son's disappearance for a documentary. Slater went missing in June 2024 after attending a music festival on the island and was found dead 29 days later in a remote ravine within the Parque Rural de Teno.

Spanish autopsy reports concluded that Slater died after falling into a approximately 25-meter deep ravine. In the Channel 5 documentary ‘Cause Of Death’, Duncan shared the traumatic experience of being shown photographs of her son's body by Spanish police while visiting the island to collect his phone and legal paperwork.

During the investigation, Slater's disappearance was subject to significant online conspiracy theories and harassment directed at his family. Duncan visited the location where Slater left the road to leave flowers, reflecting on the circumstances of his death.
