Ceuta migration crisis triggers nationwide municipal demonstrations
Spanish municipalities are mobilizing to show solidarity with Ceuta following a migration crisis. The Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) has called for simultaneous demonstrations across Spain on September 2 at 20:00, coinciding with Ceuta Day. Major cities, including Madrid and Elche, have confirmed their participation to express support for the autonomous city and its citizens.
The initiative has sparked political debate in some regions, such as Ontinyent, where political parties have questioned the FEMP's decision-making process. In Ceuta, local tensions remain high following recent incidents at migrant settlements. The platform 'Ceuta Unida' organized a peaceful march to protest the influx of migrants while emphasizing the need for non-violent demonstrations.
In a separate move of social support, RFEF president Rafael Louzán and national coach Luis de la Fuente are scheduled to visit Ceuta on September 4 to demonstrate the solidarity of Spanish football with the community.
