Tenerife PSOE denounces early end to fire prevention work

The PSOE of Tenerife has denounced the Cabildo de Tenerife for prematurely ending the work of over 120 fire prevention employees. According to the political group, the public company Gesplan notified workers that their activities will conclude on October 30, rather than the originally scheduled date of November 24, effectively canceling planned preventive tasks for that period.

Tamara Raya, the general secretary of the PSOE in Tenerife, stated that this decision represents a setback for the protection of forests and local populations. She emphasized that climate change is extending fire risk periods beyond the summer, requiring continuous year-round prevention rather than seasonal efforts.

The Cabildo de Tenerife responded by stating they have made efforts in recent years to increase permanent staff dedicated to forest fire prevention and extinction. The institution noted that they have added 52 professionals to their teams over the last two years to ensure year-round preventive treatments and more intense summer deployment.
