Tenerife ranked as top European island for road trips

A new ranking by car rental company Avis, published via Time Out, has identified the best European islands for road trips. The islands were evaluated based on several criteria, including land area, terrain complexity, maximum altitude, length of circular routes, number of landmarks, tourist density, social media popularity, and the availability of electric vehicle charging stations.

Tenerife, part of the Spanish Canary Islands, secured first place with a score of 83.5 out of 100. The island is noted for its dramatic landscapes, high elevations, and year-round subtropical climate. Key attractions include Teide National Park and the UNESCO World Heritage site of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.

Gran Canaria took second place with 82.7 points, recognized for its volcanic landscapes, historic towns, and beaches such as the Maspalomas dunes. Madeira, Portugal, earned third place with 78.7 points, highlighted by its six-hour circular driving route, lush nature, and popular hiking trails like the Stairway to Heaven.
