Valenciaport advances renewable energy integration and digital marine monitoring
The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) is advancing its RENMARINAS project to integrate renewable energy into the maritime-port environment. The authority has awarded a contract to Applus Norcontrol for the direction of works and safety coordination to connect new energy sources to existing medium-voltage grids.
In the Port of Valencia, the project involves a system to evacuate energy from a floating photovoltaic plant. In the Port of Sagunto, the initiative will connect a wave energy plant (undimotriz) to the grid. This project is funded through the European Union’s Next GenerationEU via the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE).
Separately, the Port of Barcelona, in collaboration with the BCN Port Innovation Foundation and Fujitsu, is developing a pioneering underwater digital twin. This technology uses AI, advanced sensors, and underwater drones (ROVs) to create high-resolution 3D representations of the seabed, allowing for the monitoring of marine ecosystems and biodiversity.
