Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Demands Stricter Penalties for Animal Cruelty
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin of Selangor said that cruelty toward pets and stray animals reflects a failure to uphold compassion, a core value of a civilised society. She urged that any individual, organisation, company or government agency found guilty of animal cruelty – including members or officers of local authorities – should be thoroughly investigated and face the full force of the law.
The royal patron of the Stray Free Selangor campaign called for stricter enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 and for penalties to be reviewed and made more consistent. She also appealed for greater cooperation among the federal government, state and local authorities, animal‑welfare groups and the public to promote a humane approach to animal care and protection.
