TENMAK and Copenhagen Atomics sign nuclear technology agreement

The Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency (TENMAK) and Denmark-based Copenhagen Atomics have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance research and development capabilities in innovative nuclear technologies. The agreement, signed at the TENMAK Çekmece Campus in Istanbul, focuses on the development of small modular reactors (SMRs).

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar highlighted the strategic importance of thorium fuel used in Copenhagen Atomics’ technology. Given Turkey's significant thorium reserves, the collaboration aims to reduce foreign dependency on nuclear fuel. The partnership seeks to facilitate the domestic production of thorium compounds, potentially positioning Turkey as an international supplier in the field of next-generation nuclear energy.
