TENMAK launches lithium borate production facility in Turkey
The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has launched a domestic production initiative for lithium borate compounds through the TENMAK BOREN Lithium Borate Salts Production Facility. The project aims to reduce Turkey's reliance on imports for materials primarily used in the cement and glass industries, which currently requires between 8.5 and 10 tons of lithium borate compounds annually.
Following successful assembly, commissioning, and performance tests, the facility has begun pilot-scale production of lithium tetraborate and lithium metaborate compounds. The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 5 tons. This domestic production is projected to contribute approximately $5 million annually to the economy by decreasing import costs and positioning Turkey as a reliable producer in the international lithium borate market.
