Tennessee dog rescued after 17 hours on cliff ledge

A 5-year-old Lagotto Romagnolo named Carl survived for 17 hours after falling approximately 120 feet onto a narrow ledge in Dickson County, Tennessee. The dog had been visiting a friend’s farm with his owner, Scott Grissom, when he went missing near a lookout point.

Rescuers utilized drone technology to locate the dog on the cliff face and employed a high-angle rope rescue system to navigate a 70-foot sheer wall and other steep terrain. The City of Dickson Fire Department reported that the mechanical advantage systems used allowed rescuers to safely reach the animal. Once reached, Carl reportedly jumped into the rescuers' arms and was placed in a duffel bag to be raised to the top of the bluff.
